Unhappy Argh. I need some help with batting please!

I'm getting aggravated now. Seems no matter what I do I just don't get hits. No matter what the difficulty, or the guess pitch method, when I do get a hit it's always DIRECTLY at an infield or a line drive straight to an outfielder. I just don't know where I'm going wrong. And it's not like I'm using a bad team with bad hitters. I'm using the Yankees.

Even when I guess a pitch correctly, whether I'm using default, 1/6, or 1/4, and time the hit right it's the same old thing. Straight to an infielder or outfielder. Try and pull the ball left or right, try and get some elevation on it, same thing, again. And when I am lucky enough to get a hit it's 95% of the time the only **** hit I get in the inning.

I think I've actually batted in a run ONCE. The rest of my RBI's have come from home runs and they weren't home runs I was actually attempting to hit.

Admittedly I haven't played the game since The Show 09 but I never had this trouble getting hits in 09. It's driving me mad. What's the deal?

*for the record I'm using zone batting. Tried the timing batting but I don't like that. Too basic. And even there it was the same thing happening.

Welcome sViggy:

Just to point out there are topics that should steer you in the right direction, to find out your answer simply scroll down a few posts or scroll through a couple of pages or you can use our TSN search feature. I'm sure there are very knowledgeable members that already covered this area all you got a do is put forth a little bit of effort on your part.

Also don't forget to use MLB12 Batter's practice and Free COTW.. These 2 modes should also be helpful to you.

Have you tried turning your HUMAN SOLID HITS down?
This will make for less direct hits and more bloopers & scwibbers between fielders.

Yeah, hi btw. I'll give the forums a search then. I didn't bother before because I thought someone might just throw up some quick nugget of info or something and forum search functions generally tend to be useless and throw up everything but what you asked for.

As for the sliders, well, I've turned the pitch speed down one notch and human solid hits and human timing both up one notch. I'll try knocking the solid hits and timing back down to default.

I do not want the Orioles to sweep me 4 and 0. Not had a good start to the franchise at all really.

First, you need to scout your whole team, and by scout, I mean examine every player's hot and cold zones. Remember, if you are looking at them on their card, the hot zones are switched; the vs Righties zones are their zones against Lefties instead. The in-game H/C zones are correct. Look for a 4-quadrant zone where everything is hot. Ideally you want something like this:
XXO
XXO
OOO

You want to look for something in that zone until you get 2 strikes, and you may want to try using the power swing if you batter has decent power, and the batter's power swing PCI is decent sized. Don't swing at anything that's not in that zone before 2 strikes. Of course, you'll get fooled here and there, and you'll chase, that's part of baseball. Be aggressive in the zone you're looking in, but don't be aggressive in the WHOLE strike zone until 2 strikes.

If someone has a zone like this:
OOO
OXX
OXO

You're going to want to look in this area:
OOO
OXX
OXX

You have to know your players' strengths and weaknesses and swing at what they like, not what you like.

Using this method allows you to automatically work the count since you aren't swinging at anything that's not in the zone you are looking in. You will get better at hitting using this method because some players like high pitches, others like outside pitches, etc. and you will get good at hitting pitches in all locations over time. I sucked at hitting high pitches for the longest time until I started using this method, I used to always pull down on the left stick to hit high pitches for whatever reason.

You have to go up to the plate with a plan of attack. You just can't be swinging at everything that is a strike as you just can't cover the whole plate, that's why the batting averages of all players fall drastically after 2 strikes. If you are not prepared to swing at a pitch that is a strike (before 2 strikes), then let it go as you'll probably make an easy out if you put the pitch in play or if you're lucky, you'll swing and miss. Good pitchers throw strikes that are designed to get you out.

Depending on the situation (runners at 1st and 3rd, 1 out) or the pitcher, I sometimes just look for pitches up in the zone. If the pitcher's strength is keeping the ball low and getting grounders (with sinkers, 2-seamers, changeups, splitters, etc.), I don't swing at anything low as I most of the time you'll swing early on a low change or sinker that's out of the zone and be down 1 strike. Make the pitcher throw the ball up; if he consistently is getting called low strikes, then you'll have to go down and get them. But make him prove that he can throw low strikes before swinging at them. It's just like real baseball where hitters won't swing at a pitcher's breaking ball until he proves he can throw it for strikes.

Knowing when to use the contact swing is key too. The contact swing greatly lowers your chances of getting a base hit so you don't want to go to it every time you get 2 strikes. If there's a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs, you NEED to make contact to score that run. A weak grounder will score the run, and you can still hit fly balls that are deep enough to score the runner with the contact swing. With a runner at 2nd and no outs, use the contact swing (plus swing influence) with 2 strikes to hit a grounder to the right side to move that runner to 3rd.

Give yourself room to grow, and make mistakes. Go an entire nine innings without a hit, but learn something from it each time. And don't be afraid to try new methods, or hitting interfaces or difficulties.

Solid hits will do just that, make a solid hit usually right to a fielder.
Dialing it down will increase your ability to hit bloopers in front of fielders, forcing them to make a play.
