Default Renewing Contracts to players

I am midway through June on my franchise season and I traded a couple AA players for a starting pitcher, I noticed he was in his last year of his contract along with a number of players on my team. I looked everywhere to see where I can offer him a contract or any contract to any player with the exception of Free Agents and Cant find anything. Do I have to wait until the off season to try to renew these? I want to lock up a few players before I hit the offseason. Please help. Any and all help with this is appreciated.
Dave

There is a designated period during the off-season where you'll be the sole negotiator with whoever's contract you're trying to renew. Pay close attention to the off season, and read this thread for any further answers to questions.
