Collections & Collectors

With the idea and act of collecting so ingrained into baseball, I feel like people who have that "collector" trait are more drawn to baseball than other sports. Coupled with the fact that collecting is an integral part of MLBTS, there have to be some real-life collectors here.

So, what do you guys collect? It can be baseball cards, a sack of marbles, (cough) Petey, anything

SDS

I collect baseball cards. Not any specific team though I am partial to my Cardinals.
The best three cards I have pulled in my collection are

2017 1st Bowman Blue Paper Ronald Acuna /150
2018 Topps Series 2 Shohei Ohtani Independence Day parallel /76
2019 Donruss Blue Don Mattingly Autograph.

I just love the excitement of pulling cards, sort of like how it is pulling a diamond in MLB the Show lol

SDS

I have some cool Yankee stuff: a Jeter rookie card sealed and gradedI think it's 9.0, a game worn Mariano Rivera Jersey card (with a pinstripe!!), Reggie Jackson card with a piece of wood from his bat....cool stuff IMO

SDS

Baseball cards and movies (mostly horror and sci-fi).

That's rad. Which era horror/sci-fi?

SDS

A lot of 70's and 80s which Is my favorite period and also early works from 1920 to 1950s. But my collection covers all era's including the 2000/2010s

SDS

I got a dresser full of old cards from the 80s and ones from the 90s, 2000s, me and my dad would open up, topped with a shrine of Mariners and couple other teams memorabilia and homerun/foul balls I've gotten from going to Safeco. They really hit the nail on the head with this collector thing in DD, brings back all the nostalgic feels.

That's awesome. I'm too much of a wuss for a lot of the newer stuff, but I dig the classics. An area of collecting I do is movie posters/lobby cards and the original horror and sci-fi stuff is incredible

They really did an awesome job with that. Nothing beats the feeling of scoring a ball or killer card from your favorite player or favorite team when you're a kid.

I completely agree about how the collecting aspect of MLBTS draws me to this game. I keep seeing how everyone complains about pitch speed this or fielding that, when it's all good to me and I will blindly accept whatever SDS puts out because, in the end, I do have tons of fun with this game - both playing the games (both on and offline) and collecting all the different players/items, etc.! I would say my only complaint would be to add an "Attempt Meter" for the Moments so I can catalog my insanity when trying certain ones. But that's minor. I think it's the best sports game out there!

Currently, I've been attempting to collect ALL purchasable cards in MLBTS19 and I am down to 13 left! They are all the guys that are, like, 200K - 900K (SS Gagne, SS Foxx, SS Carew, etc.) Part of my obsession lies in the fact that I'm OCD and have that "need" to complete the entire collection! I've got approx. 50 days to complete it before MLBTS20 comes out. Yes, of course, I've already pre-ordered. Can't wait!

I'm the type that has always collected stuff like Star Wars figures, sports cards, comics, etc. As I've aged, I now only collect The Punisher comics/items, but that's about it. I stopped collecting sports cards a good ways back, and what I had stored away got destroyed in 2017 when Hurricane Harvey hit. (And, yes, I will always cherish the Astros winning the WS that year. I stand by my team through the good times, as well as these current dark times. I am hoping the Astros use this hashtag this year: #Redemption. We'll see what happens this year... Go Stros.) All I have left is a Ricky Williams card that happened to survive thanks to the special case it was in. I still have all my old school Star Wars figures, but stopped collecting those back when the prequels came out. Used to collect DVDs & Blu-Rays and all that, but sold them all to reduce clutter as everything's pretty much streamed, nowadays.

I guess as we get further into this digital age, my collecting will become more digital, as well. Who knows, but I am definitely having fun with MLBTS and collecting digitally!

Got any Kenner stuff? Those go for a good amount of money. Even some of the prequel stuff has risen in value tremendously the last couple of years. That must have been such a bummer to lose everything in a Hurricane, man. It's an interesting point regarding collecting in the digital age. Personally, with everything becoming more digitized, I find myself embracing tangible collecting even more.

I hear ya! It's becoming harder and harder to collect the more tangible items as we become more and more engrossed in technology. All of my Star Wars stuff is the Kenner stuff! POTF, all that! I looooooooooove my Darth Vader with removable helmet! 😄 I would say that I still collect anything that deals with Han Solo In Carbonite! I loooooooooooove that figure and have so much stuff related to it! A rug, a beach towel, a coffee mug, the Lego set, etc. I'd say my next item to collect would be that Slave I Boba Fett Lego set that has the mini Han Solo in Carbonite that comes with it! I is a nerd. 🤓
