How is it September and pitching is still so bad?

SDS

Seriously. I'm tired of getting through like 2 or 3 innings, then all of a sudden, I lose complete control of my pitchers. It's bad enough that half the pitches on the corner get called for balls, and then to make it worse, I can try to throw a changeup in the dirt and it stays in the middle.

Christ, I try and throw a fastball down the middle, and it goes way wide.

How have we made it to September and this still hasn't been addressed?

SDS

Because it’s the way the game is designed. There’s nothing for them to address. It was like this last year and they made it worse this year.

I'm having a hard time reconciling "they made it worse this year" and "there's nothing for them to address." I really don't know what you mean by that.

SDS

The game has been untouched for months when it comes to gameplay. This is the product we'll have all year.

Did you play MLB 19? If so, they put more RNG into pitching which causes the random “hangers”. This year they added more RNG to pitching meaning more “hangers” than MLB 19 had. They have designed pitching to make it “harder” by forcing more hangers, instead of actually making the mechanics of pitching harder. In SDS’s eyes there is nothing to change with pitching because it’s how they designed it. Hope that clarifies.

Ok, so if I'm understanding you, you're saying "there's nothing to address" from the SDS standpoint. Gotcha. That makes sense.

I mean...it doesn't make sense that there's nothing to address. Baseball is random enough without adding this random garbage into the mix.

I've played The Show since like '07, didn't really start with DD til late 2015, and every year, it feels like I primarily (definitely not always) lose because the game is taken out of my hands.

Yes, you’ve got my point. They haven’t touched pitching because it’s exactly how they want it to play. Back in 17 and 18 people spammed breaking pitches down and out of the zone. They stated before 19 I believe in the dev streams that you would not be able to do that anymore and spamming pitches would lead to hangers essentially. However they did that, they simply added it more this year. They will not be addressing it this year and I doubt they change it for next year with all the new XBox players they’ll add.
I’m not saying I like it or they shouldn’t fix it. I’m simply saying I believe, based on the way pitching has changed since 17 online, that this is the method they prefer to make it harder to pitch. They could easily make the targets to hit for meter or analog bigger or smaller based on ratings. Make the speed of the meter or the sensitivity of the analog tighter/looser based on ratings. They’ve not done that and it seems like the hangers are worse each year since 18.

SDS

I also believe they open up timing windows and boost power when I hang a pitch. Pitches that I hang or pitches when I miss my spot are punished with such consistency and ferocity, that it makes me think something fluctuates on the batter’s end as well.

I do recall the breaking ball spam stuff, but that leads to the biggest complaint most people have, which centers around the skill gap diminishing. I lean on my fastball more than spamming breaking pitches, and when I finally do decide to go for the ball in the dirt, it’s belt high and gone. It’s just really frustrating. Playing against people spamming breaking pitches made me a more patient hitter (not that I’m a great hitter, but I lay off a lot more junk), and because pitching was my strength, this is just taking my ability out of my hands.

You’re likely right. It probably won’t be addressed, but it’d be nice if they considered overhauling the mechanics instead of releasing the same thing every year while dismantling the effectiveness of it.

SDS

I miss the pitching of MLB 18, it didn't seem as random as this year's and last year's game.

SDS

SDS doesn’t care, they have made the curveball, change up , 2 seam and splitter utterly useless in the game. It’s about money
