Why Biggio over Prestige Posey?

SDS

Posey's numbers are better but I see so many people using Biggio...

SDS

Speed and prob like his swing more.

SDS

Speed and balanced hitter

SDS

Posey has a bad swing. Biggios isn’t all that great either but no other catcher has that speed. I use Posada back there personally

SDS

i love posey he's been a rock since i got him - can't wait to upgrade

Because how well someone does with a card is more important than shiny stats.

This. Posey plays way below his stats, Biggio isn’t great either, Piazza has a bad swing, Pudge swings a wet newspaper, I don’t get on well with Johnny Bench, so it’s Posada for me.
Half the time, defensive stats don’t play in this game, so it matters not about having elite defense when the game will simply select a bad animation to undermine the superior stats anyway. You’ll be pulled off the base, select a slow sweeping tag instead of simply laying a tag down, you’ll take extra unnecessary steps and crow hops, pumping the glove etc. The best part is - it’s all totally out of your hands!

I feel like Pudge's defensive stats do play though. In 41 games, he has let one ball by him, and I actually have been keeping track of that.

Everytime I use biggio at catcher he gets delayed animations most of the time.

Secondary position. It dont matter how well a guy plays defense he gets bad animation at his secondaries. Well not necessarily bad, but not like if they were that rating at their primary.

It’s not as if defense is irrelevant this year, that’s not what I was saying at all. I can clearly tell the difference between having Posey and Posada behind the plate for my DD team, both in terms of blocking and throwing out runners attempting to steal second (third to a lesser extent as it has more inclination to trigger one of the animations I mentioned).

However, I maintain my original point, which was that half of the time, these superior defensive stats absolutely do not play, due to the animation the game selects. I can fire an absolute missile to the second basemen and get the ball there well ahead of the runner. When my 99 Alomar with elite stats is going to receive that ball from my elite defending catcher with a cannon for an arm and allow the runner to be safe because the game elects to use a huge, sweeping, right to left tagging motion with his arm, my defensive stats are negated.

When I use 99 Schmidt at 3B and we catch a runner between third base and home and the game pulls my catcher way off the plate when I’m throwing home for what should be a routine tag and an out, my defensive stats are negated.

When it works as it should, defense plays. In examples like those I’ve laid out, it feels like game scripting and deliberate RNG, which leads to many complaints. I just think it’s shoddy work by the devs myself. These things are arbitrary and random rather than scripted and planned out.

Good luck with Posada at C, he's cost me before with his slowness to the ball, especially getting up from the plate and towards a dribbler right in front of him + throwing to first. You will lose your [censored] when it happens. It always happens at the worst time. Of course, that's just an example of the animations being talked about here.

It happens for sure, problem being that it happens to Posey, Pudge and Biggio as well as guys like Piazza and Posada who have lesser defensive stats. As I said before, I can totally see why people scream about game scripting when it happens in a key situation, or allows a runner to reach with two outs, only for the next batter to hit a home run.

I don’t believe that’s the case though. My take is the overall gameplay is bad in terms of the frequency of these incidents being unrealistically high and SDS have shown zero inclination to fix any of it. The amount of times a player gets pulled off a base on a routine play, fails to make an out due to opting for a dramatic sweeping arm motion as opposed to quickly laying down a tag, the amount of impossible to defend against bunts due to the crazy infielders, the amount of times a third baseman does that stupid animation where they overrun, don’t pick the ball up and get a handful of air, it’s all disproportionately high and SDS must know this very well. Yet here we are.

Anyone use Santiago? I have used him in a couple games and in some of the Extreme stuff and am really liking him.

And if he had SS as a secondary, he'd make Trevor Story irrelevant 🙂
