Think I can get away with playing Soto at First Base?

SDS

I have way to many OF. Mantle, Griffey, Trout. Harper and Arozarena off the bench. Plus Mookie. Think I can hide Soto there for at least the first half of the game?

SDS

No he will commit error after error

SDS

No you can not, he'll drop every routine ball thrown to him. They programmed it this way to ensure people wouldn't play a big bat out of position at 1B like we did in 17 and prior.

SDS

No. Plus with Ruth, Musial, and Ortiz, why would you want to? LF for Soto

I'm not good enough/ patient enough for Ruth. I could not hit with Stan. Ortiz was a stud but at one point he was going for 200k so I sold him. Big Frank has been getting it done but he is just so slow. Who would you bench in the OF? Griffey? Trout? Mantle is my only guy who is staying put.

Yeah this is my first year playing. I had Robinson stuck at catcher for one inning and that was an adventure. It only effect their defense though right? Hitting stats dont take a hit if out of position so they? Shame they dont have a DH. Soto would be my guy.

SDS

Try Ohtani there instead.......

SDS

Just get Babe.

If you 100% insist on Mantle staying put take out Griffey and sell him. All three of Soto, Griffey, and Trout are better than Mantle though IMO. Mantle is still a top 5 outfield option, but he is certainly overhyped just for being the collection reward

Yea way to may options but Babe has not left 1B since I unlocked him. I was actually thinking of selling Soto to Keep my outfield of Ted, Trout, and Jr with Randy A and Eloy on the bench. Im 0/14 to start with Soto which doesnt help lol

SDS

I wish this could be

Better off hiding Mookie at 2B.

Better off "hiding" Mookie at 2B.

Put him at catcher. Don't throw a lot of dirt balls. Worst case scenario is you'll get fastballs dropped that are swing and misses, but they usually don't go ridiculously far away. You'll probably have enough time to field it and throw the person out, but you'll have a pretty small accuracy bar to hit, so you better be good at doing that. Also, if runners get on base, expect people to steal second and third with everyone, including pitchers. Plus, they may even take home an extra base hoping he'll drop throws. If you really want to play an out of position completely, that's your best bet. Third base may not be bad either, but don't expect many outs hit to him, just knocked down and held to singles.

I have Mookie platooning with Seager at 2nd. They both have reverse splits. LOL

LOL. I thought about putting him at third since there really are not many balls hit that way unless the shift is on. But he is a lefty, so if he does actually stop something it is going to look really weird.

I don't know about overhyped. Mantle is a switch hitter, with speed and can play defense. Not many can match those three things and thats not even considering his great hitting stats. I hate the Yankees but Mantle pretty darn good. I'm just worried Soto cant play defense in the OF.

If you're really doing it, I would not be expecting many, if any outs. I've accidentally left Kenny Lofton at SS for an event game. On a double play ball to the 2b his animation for the DP was so slow the runner went through first base and Lofton still hadn't thrown the ball. When he finally did it was one of those lazy OF throws to the cut off man. He did catch the ball thrown to him though, but his fielding rating is much higher than Soto.

Soto is a bench bat, nothing more. Trout, Mantle, Griffey, and Mays are the only real acceptable starters in the OF right now if you want to run the best possible squad (defense included). Just be happy with the 1 AB a game. I've got him and Williams on the pine.

SDS

I play the Postseason Joc Pederson at 1B versus RHP. It is one of his secondary positions. He has 125 power vs. right.
