Is RTTS rigged?

SDS

I'll start by saying this: it's entirely possibly that I just suck.

But.

Why is it as soon as I begin playing for a team in RTTS (I'm a SS anomoly) they team immediately begins giving up 3-6 runs in the firtlst three innings, can't hold a lead for anything, and the rest of my lineup is just worthless?

I'm playing for the red Sox. Year 7 of RTTS. 4 pitchers in the high 80s ovr to low 90s. All of them have ERAs in the mid sixes to high 8s.
Only one other player has a BA above.300 (Bogart) were 4 games under 500 woth a lineup that includes Bogarts, myself (99 ovr, 99 pwr, 80+contact), Alonso, Yelich at the heart with Odor (as a 90) batting 9th.

Half of my games, I'm down by 3-6 runs before I even step to the plate once. It seems like another 1/4 of my games, we struggle, fight back to tie it up or take the lead late just for the other team to pop another 5 runs on the board.

Weve only won two series' all season, and the team I previously played for (Seattle) with no changes to their line up or pitching staff (other than me) are 8 game above 500 while for 3 seasons with the team, the closest we ever got was 10 under (in my first year there.)

Something feels way off.

SDS

You may be on to something. I'm like a month into the season on the Red Sox in 2024 and we are the 1st ranked team. Contact, Power, Fielding, Pitching, Speed all in the top 10. We are in last place in the division and the Rays are the only other well ranked team.

I've experienced a fair amount of what you are touching on in this thread too.

SDS

I've seen this in the last few years, including 2020. Although, I'm currently in 2022, on the Marlins, ranked 14th overall, and we're leading the division in mid-September.

SDS

It just feels as if something in the simulation algorithm says "oh, it's a user played game? Crank the opposition players to 99"

It just doesn't make sense how a Orioles team, full of 70's and 80's can outscore my Boston team (all 90s and 80s) 37-8 in a 3 game series, especially with my best pitchers on the mound.

I get if that stuff happened occasionally, that happens in sports, but this has been going on the entire season and just isn't fun to experience.

SDS

I'm still in 2024 (been slowing down a bit) at about the All-Star break and 45-49 or something stupid. Third in the division at least now, but still almost 20 games behind 1st place.

I did get in the playoffs once as like the 5-6th best team in the league. Made the Wild Card and ended up losing in the World Series.

SDS

I've noticed this, too. Opponents are scoring ridiculous runs. More often than not, they score at least 10 per game. It feels like regardless of what you do, the game decided beforehand which games you're allowed to win. It's not a fun experience.

SDS

I haven’t had those issues yet. Used to in the 16 Rtts save I carried over into 17. Currently I’m in 2027 and we started the year 2-12, and have gone 36-15 since, all the while I’ve felt I haven’t been that integral a part of it.

That's awesome!!!

Agree completely.

SDS

I cycle through 8 different RTTS players. I can honestly say this doesn't line up with what I'm experiencing with any of them, although I'm definitely seeing some different shenanigans that make me think the simulation is way off, but ONLY when I'm actually involved (as a baserunner, for example).

Here's a quick rundown of the players, their teams, and performance. C for Orioles (Orioles still suck, they're performing about how you'd expect). Control Freak SP for Tigers (Tigers are horrible, but I still win quite a few games when I start). 1B for Royals (They're about middle of the road, struggling to stay just barely above 500). Flamethrower SP for Cubs (They continue to battle for 1st in a very competitive division, I win most starts). Plain Filthy SP for Rays (previous year with White Sox, they suck, but I still won several games, they stayed above only the Tigers in the division). SS for Blue Jays (they perform exactly as you'd expect, staying above the Orioles, behind the Yankees & Red Sox and battling the Rays). Flamethrower CP for Phillies (actually more competitive than in real life until a horrible trade decision). CF with Rockies just started rookie season, so can't really comment in him. As you can see, everybody performs how you'd expect them to perform in my own experience.

So what shenanigans am I seeing then? For all of my hitters, the players hitting behind them do not perform well at all when I'm on base. I see some really crazy things. For example, I've been on different teams with different players who always lead the league in hitting into double plays. It's almost laughable at this point. I get on base with less than 2 outs, and shrug...here comes the next hitter hitting about to GIDP. This is also demonstrated by the low batting averages and high strikeout rates for players that hit while I'm on base, no matter who they are. I've seen it with Mookie Betts, Josh Donaldson, Salvador Perez, Whit Merrifield, Adalberto Mondesi, Pete Alonso, Jorge Soler.

Perhaps the BEST measure though is looking at some real life hitters, look at how often they get driven in after getting a base hit, but eliminating HR's from the equation. Let's compare Whit Merrifield's real numbers to my Blue Jays SS numbers, as they're similar low power hitters, with similar hit stats. Whit Merrifield had 206 hits and 16 HR's in real life, while my SS had 212 hits and 17 HR's. It's the Runs that are a problem...Whit had 105, while my SS had 72. After eliminating HR's from both the Hits & Runs stats, Whit was driven in by his teammates 46.8% of the time, while my SS was driven in 28.2% of the time. This is also despite my SS having more Doubles (53 vs 41) and Triples (11 vs 10), so it's not a matter of him getting in better scoring position. My SS also has Mookie Betts and Josh Donaldson hitting behind him and is in the leadoff spot. It's also not an isolated result either. My Royals 1B was driven in by his teammates only 21% of the time he's reached base. My Orioles Catcher was only driven in by teammates 18.7% of the time he reached base...in fact, he only had 20 runs ALL YEAR that were not a result of him hitting a HR. On the other side, Whit Merrifield is also not an isolated incident. Tim Anderson was driven in 42.3% of the time, Rafael Devers a whopping 57.4% of the time, DJ LeMahieu 48.5%, Marcus Semien a whopping 62.8% of the time, and finally, Jorge Polanco 51.8% of the time.

So, those are the "facts"...not just a "feeling". Players that hit behind you in-game do not perform as well as they should in real life. This results in you reaching base, only to be driven in by your teammates about half as often as would be considered realistic. Imagine how much more fun the game would be if you were driven in twice as often as you are now. How many more games would your team win over the course of a season?

SDS

I just had a game that was early in the season. My team was 6-1 and the opponent was 1-6. Their SP had an ERA of 47.25 and ours had an ERA of 3.60. Final score was an 8-3 loss. My player who is 1B went 1-4 with only a single. I had a game yesterday with my SP against a SP with an ERA of 9+ and the final score was 1-0. I see play after play where the CPU players make fantastic defensive plays almost super human.

SDS

Yep. I'm seeing this too. I've actually given up on RTTS (at least as a hitter). Way too many games where my team is up like 7-0 in the 5th inning and then miraculously the other team will score 8 runs within 3 innings leading to us losing. It's not even fun at this point.

SDS

In my first full season with the Rockies in 2022 after two years in AA/AAA, we made the playoffs as a wild card. Beat the Braves in the one game playoff, beat the Mets in 4 and the Brewers in 6. Faced the Twins in the WS. Came down to game 7. We were down 3-0 going into the 7th inning. Several hits and 2 errors by the twins allowed us to score 5 and we went on to win 6-4. So... I've seen the types of things you're talking about, but this one seemed to even it out for me anyway.

SDS

Being that I play as the Giants I'm expecting to be in last place for a long time.

But..... I watch what the Giants do on offense. Why does it seem like they get thrown out at home plate A LOT?

Your Giants may get a chance, as I've seen that even crappy teams can pull together a decent roster after a few years. I was drafted by the Orioles in MLB 2019. 3 years in, we made the wildcard, and 5 years in we won the division. This year, I was drafted by the Marlins and after 4 years we have a decent team.

SDS

Well, my anomaly RF got rushed up to Detroit. Spring Training, 2021, we're playing the BoSox, and our pitching staff gives up nine runs in the 7th. I screen-capped the log, and it barely fits on one screen. Anyway, as part of that collapse, they issued a combined EIGHT WALKS IN ONE INNING, okay, which (I looked this up) would have tied the ALL-TIME MAJOR LEAGUE RECORD for most bases on balls in one inning. That record, by the way, dates back to 1909, which was in the dead-ball era.

When my AI teammates are setting what would be modern-era Major League records for how badly they're pitching, you'll have to excuse the tin foil hat here, but I have a hard time believing that's not code.

First off... great post. Lots of great detail in here. Second, I spent my 2021 season with the Rockies, hitting ahead of Nolan Arenado. I hit .350 and walked a ton. I was on base all the time. Nolan rewarded me with a .243 batting average...

SDS

Well, at least I'm not the only one having those issues.

I've played 6 and half years for the Red Sox, half year with the Marlins and now I'm on the Giants with my 99 OVR SS. We have always had great offenses, top 5 almost every year, but all those years we also had bottom 5 pitching staff. It's so annoying because even a 8-run lead is not safe and you're always fighting to stay just a couple games above .500.

The absolute worst was a year when the pitching staff was great for 3 months and we were like 20-25 games above .500 and then it suddenly became one of the worst staffs of the league for the last 2 months, we barely won the division and lost in the ALCS allowing countless runs.

I have won every award possible but I haven't even reached 1 World Series yet. So frustrating.

SDS

I changed my mind, yeah it’s kinda rigged. I have aerial assault equipped. Ground balls or pop flies are impossible when runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Just had 3 games in a row where the boost was in effect. Went 0-3 with a grounder and 2 fly outs.

SDS

I think it’s rigged. I’m playing the show 20. I finished 2021 season with 135 homeruns and the next year 2022 I barely have any power. I’m just getting singles and doubles or i’m flying out in the outfield.

You got 135 homers in one season? You can’t be playing on anything besides Rookie or Veteran with those numbers. How do you even have fun?
