So I took some time to reflect

So I was laying in bed and got up to write this post. I had a few frustrating games on MLB The Show tonight and turned it off. When reflecting on everything, I started thinking about everything going on in the world with this epidemic. Many human beings have lost their lives due to this epidemic. Many families have been through a horific experience with their loved ones dying and not being able to be with them during their final time on earth. Many others are dealing with unemployment and wondering how they are going to eat or pay their bills. Hopefully, everyone on the forum is safe and not having to deal with these issues. I am fortunate in the fact I have been working from home and haven't yet (and hopefully don't) have to deal with this epidemic first hand.

Now I am as guilty as others about being frustrated with the game but when you turn on CNN or some other news channel, having issues with an online game is extremely trivial. Maybe SDS employees are dealing with some of those issues I mentioned before. I am going to refrain from posting on frustrations of the game and hope when this passes that they can then work on the game. I do hope everyone stays safe.

So to the person I just played.

You took a 7-0 lead in the top of the 2nd and I was about to quit until you started watching your HR's the entire time. I then decided I was just going to play it out and waste your time. Was pretty fun putting up a 12 spot and watching all 5 HR's at full length. Don't be a peter and you would have got the win in the 2nd and been on your way to another game. Instead you got the loss and deleted your pitching staff.

Why do people feel they need to watch HR replays? Games are long enough as it is. I will do it when you do though.

    Really enjoying showdown today /s

Can't score 4 runs off Cole because I have to hit into 5 double plays on good swings. Also enjoy the gold glove fielders every where diving like it's a sportscenter highlight reel.

RE: I really hate online play.

@joshdcarr25 said in I really hate online play.:

I hate ranked seasons because of this. It feels like whoever has the weaker lineup gets the favored outcome. I played someone recently that had a losing record and .231 average. My average in ranked is .301. I had 16 dead or near dead center good/okays for outs and lost the game. I usually can tell early if I am going to lose when I start getting an obsessive amount of good/okay and my pitches float down the middle despite perfect input. It sucks because online play is my favorite but it's ruining it for me.

There are a ton of tell tale signs that show you will probably lose the game. If they don't exist, it is usually a very early quit for my opponent. If they are, I am either going to lose or it will be a dog fight.
    Jumpy pci when hitting
    Good/good+ rarely results in hits
Throw either down the middle or ball - jumpy pci when pitching
    Opponents get hits on everything
    Strikes on corners
Fielding blunders (quite a few different ones)
Base stealers get very poor jumps
Extra long or very slow returns when rounding a base

Pretty sure there are a few I am forgetting but when you see these signs it is best to cut bait and quit or you will get get frustrated and it is a complete waste of time. The ONLY way to win these games (which is possible) is if your opponent swings at balls outside the zone or can't hit pitches down the middle. Based on these, I can usually tell within the first 3 innings whether I am going to win. Game is extremely predictable if you pay attention to the signs.

Yea, this game is unplayable for me.

Last two days, every pitch is either right over the plate or a ft outside. Never had this issue in an other show game. Every time I square up a fastball it is foul. I have now hit more foul HR's than regular. Can't even react to pitches or recognize them. Had no issues on Thursday. Had someone 30 pitches deep with their reliever dotting pitches. My guys are uncontrollable after a batter.

I can only imagine how other people are feeling. I am 34-13 in HOF event and 20-6 in RS and it just hasn't been fun the last 2 days. I have tried every pitching I can and every way. Particular enjoyed the 2 perfect meter pitches missing the mark by 2 feet.

Pitching just completely sucks the fun out of this game.

Getting pretty old having to outscore people while throwing meatballs every fckn pitch. Analog, pulse, meter - it doesn't matter. Good release, bad release. They all seem to find their way right down the middle. Another absolutely worthless patch. If this is how pitching is going to be the whole time, just let me know.

Easily the worst baseball game I have ever played

I'll take 18 with the souvenirs and exchanges 10 times over this pile of [censored] where every pitch is down the middle or a ball. The reason hitting is easy is because you have to serve the ball on a silver fckn platter.

The only way I can half enjoy this game is to play on a mobile hot spot. That is so ridiculous it is laughable.

Playing online, there is hardly any skill involved/needed. What’s the point of pci and perfect pitch releases if the ball is thrown down the middle and if you can hit homeruns on pitches where the pci isn’t even on it. Yet you can get perfect perfect fly outs all the time. It’s not fun playing a game where you have no control over it

I played yesterday hit a perfect/perfect with a right hander and was a Warner track fly out to right center. I looked at the pitch and was low and away fast ball. Now many batters have opposite field power. So even though it was perfect/ perfect was was a perfect hit for that pitch and location. Not every hit can be a home run. No need to complain all the time just have fun with the game.

I think you would be surprised at how many people could take losses if they thought the game play was fair. Match me up against players with similar ping and if someone can beat me 10-0 congrats! More than likely an opponent with similar pings my user input would match the result. With the connections and matchmaking like they currently are it is difficult to get excited about winning a game 10-0. Was my opponent seeing the 120 mph sinkers that I see a lot? Was he getting good input for pitching and the balls going no where near where they were putting them? That is what comes to mind when I win.

Ahhh yes... The old "comeback logic & predetermined losses" themes are back!

Just like The Silver and Bronze Marlins vs Diamond deGrom and the mighty Mets yesterday. That comeback and subsequent loss was definitely predetermined...

But it does make you wonder how you program a video game to replicate that reality. How would you code the "That's baseball" variability?

You got me brother... I don't believe in comeback logic and much less in predetermined losses. Just trying to spread some humor on something I personally find propostuous. The ball is round... Anyone can win a baseball game.

It has been proven to exist in other sports games. It is a way to keep people engaged, keep them from quitting and having them spend money. There is a reason in Madden and you're up 14-0 that your guy fumbles. The Show is just like any other sports game. They can't hide it forever. It will come out eventually. They denied it in Madden for years until someone found the code.

I always love these threads. "I was pitching awesome for x number of innings and then all of a sudden I couldn't throw strikes or hit my spots. This game is rigged!"

As if a pitcher has never started a game well and then things went bad. Surely that's never happened in like the history of baseball.

And this is why DDA works. Too many people with this level of intelligence.

I don't think your statement is wrong, but the question is, are you, the user, still making good or perfect inputs while pitching? If so, do you think your pitches should continue going to the correct place or should the game have some randomness and cause a good/perfect released pitch hang over the middle because IRL pitchers aren't perfect?

This is a legit question. I'm not trying to argue with you, but I'd like to hear someone's thoughts on this.

Had at least 5 perfect input pitches that I put in the strikezone end up as balls. These were strikes the first two innings. Had to give the other player a chance. DDA is so obvious in this game it isn't even funny. I have over 250 quits in this game. I do not give a [censored] about my record. Anyone with common sense can see the DDA ramped up in this game.

RE: So we’re just doing away with attributes now?

@Oachs83 said in So we’re just doing away with attributes now?:

Trying to figure out how Foxx throws out two guys with 90 plus speed an extra lead one was a breaking ball, both times no slide step. Same thing with PS Catcher Jansen throwing out Cobb extra step, no slide step, breaking ball gets thrown out. Also it’s the absolute perfectly thrown ball right at the bag as the runners sliding.

I’m honestly asking as I never ever steal. With this three inning game I gave it a go down by one and then playing a ranked game opponent had Foxx. Guys would run low 70 speed cards on me with no extra step and succeed when I had Foxx at catcher. Was a bit puzzled when he guns down 90 plus speed with an extra step breaking ball.

You will never hear anyone from SDS say it but I think it has to do with connections. People use to steal on me all the time with 80 speed guys, no lead and a good thrower behind the plate. My 99 guys would have their thumb up their [censored] and not run until the pitcher was almost done with his delivery. Again, just one of the many things connections mess up in this game.

RE: I’m giving up. done with this game

Took a break from this game and tried to play some this past week. This game is still painful to play. Not enjoyable at all. Non-stop pitches down the middle. With these cards, you can literally sit in the middle of the zone and foul off every pitch. Hitting wise probably the most unrewarding baseball game I have ever played. So many good swings are routine outs. 18 was mainly bad due to lineup diversity and souvenirs. This game play is just horrid. Only bought it due to the pandemic.

Really enjoyed purchasing Soto to try for 350k stubs in the event and out of 30 ab's, he had 2 strikes on at least 20 of them. Fun stuff. This game just isn't worth $60. No big deal, I would rather play a different game or watch netflix.

I moved my game consoles to a desk. When I get my PS5, I will move the PS4 to the TV stand for netflix and if I ever need to watch movies from a disc.

A man (Verlander in this case) shouldn't be penalized for holding back velo in the first innings. He is trying for complete games which is a rarity in baseball these days.

Just curious OP and others who are looking to get or have gotten PS5.

What games are out right now for it?

I just dont see the rush to get a system that doesnt have much content.

    Happy Gaming!

Actually I'm in no rush. I'm just curious. I will be mainly buying for the show so I can wait until March. But I've heard so many positive reviews I may purchase earlier.
I think Superman is out and is supposed to be good.

Good luck getting one. Scalpers using bots to buy up a lot of them. Ebay is flooded with consoles over $1,000. Big fail on Sony's part. They still get their money but it was a [censored] thing to do.

Cronus Zen forums show users working on hacks for The Show as well.

Or you just threw a pitcher the guy has seen a thousand times.

I have to say, I am very good at seeing cheats in games. Not sure why but I just am. For instance, PUBG came out Oct '17. I was in a streamers chat very early '18 and told them radar was in the game. I knew 100% that it was in the game. Streamer banned me and called me an idiot. Well, radar was in the game and PUBG finally blocked it this year after 2 1/2 years. Been saying for a while that mouse and keyboard and mods (no recoil mainly but a few rapid fire) were infesting the game. In the recent dev letter, PUBG acknowledged these issues and said they were looking into solutions. I highly doubt they find one as Fortnite stopped them for a very short time only for them to appear again.

All that being said, I have not seen any cheaters in this game that I am aware of since '14. In '14, I was playing a player whose pitches were disappearing out of the hand. Pretty sure it was lag switch. IMO, SDS has done a great job in preventing cheating in a time where cheating in online games is quite prevalent.
